If there were a popularity contest for bananas, the Dwarf Cavendish would take the cake. This variety swept the hearts of commercial producers in the 1950s when the Gros Michel variety, the previous supermarket winner, was destroyed by disease. The Dwarf Cavendish produces medium-sized bananas.
